Dogg’s Hamlet and Cahoot’s Macbeth are two one-act plays by Tom Stoppard, which are often performed together as Dogg’s Hamlet, Cahoot’s Macbeth.
In the first, a troupe of English schoolboys speak in a mock language called “Dogg” which uses English words that have different meanings in Dogg. This inconsistency leads to confusion on the part of the play’s characters, who try to communicate in their respective languages, English and Dogg.
All this babbles along until the schoolboys, who are studying Shakespeare’s “foreign” language present a 15 Minute version of Hamlet followed by a 2 minute encore
By the end of this first play, the English speaking character, Easy, is speaking Dogg.
The second play is dedicated to dissident Czech dramatist Pavel Kohout, who staged an unlawful performance of Macbeth in a living room as the government had banned all public performances.
The action shifts between the play and police inquiry and Czech political harassment.
Show dates:
Week #1: May 1st-4th (Thurs.-Sat.)
Week #2: May 8th-10th (Weds.-Fri.)
For advance reservations, but pay at the door, visit: torreypinesplayers.weebly.com
